Italian Food & Wine - Abruzzo style

To make the trip an overall experience, we have included visits to Italian restaurants and cooking with local chefs, and more. You stay here with us, Pelle and Ingrid Holmertz, at our little odd hotel, which is located in the middle of Abruzzo's olive groves and vineyards.

A complete package for wine and food lovers

  • Introduction to Abruzzo's wines by local sommelier

  • Two days of winery hopping. We go to large and small producers

  • Italian cooking classes à la Abruzzo. We cook for two half days

  • A long lunch on the water - on a Trabocco

  • Abruzzo is not just Italy's "food heaven". The region has a climate characterized by both the mountains and the sea, and has unique conditions for good wines, vegetables, cheeses, meats, fish and seafood.

  • Transfer, accommodation, wine introduction, cooking course, vineyard hopping, all meals.

Price / person in shared double room: 9980 SEK

Cooking with our local favorites

The origin of Italian cuisine is the family and what the farm had to offer. And we can't think of anything better than having our local favorite chefs guide you through the cooking.

Day 1: Saturday - Day of Arrival and Introduction to the area's wines

  • Transfers from Rome Fiumicino. We have snacks on the bus.

  • We stay in Ortona for a lovely lunch in the center of the old town. And then we get an introduction to the region's wines at Enoteca Regionale d 'Abruzzo, an organization owned by a large proportion of the region's wine producers.

  • Evening: Check-in as well as a light dinner in the evening.

Day 2: Sunday: Vineyard hopping and delicious lunch at Trabocco

We visit 2 wineries where their hosts present their production and philosophy. And try 3-5 of their wines. We visit Olivastri Tommaso and Fontefico.

Lunch at a so-called Trabocco. Our coast is called "The trabocco coast" after the nice little fishing houses that lie above the water. We have our lunch between the vineyard visits at one of these.

Evening: - Light dinner at our place.

FLIGHT SUGGESTIONS

We will suggest flights at a later date.

ALLERGY?
We have a dog, Rufus. He is nice and likes to be cuddled with. And he barks very rarely.

This will be our 4th Food and Wine event, this time in the spring of early May!

Day 3: Monday: Brunch, Vasto, wine tasting and cooking class

We let you sleep a little longer and start with a brunch. We go to Vasto - a medieval town which is beautifully situated by the sea.

We walk around a bit and do a wine tasting in Vini Fantini's cozy room in the middle of Vasto.

Walk to Lino Manes and his wife Adriana's restaurant Il Re Pescatore where we learn to make a typical fish dish; Brodetto. We eat in their restaurant, a typical local for old Vasto.

DAY 4: Tuesday: Brunch and country cooking at restaurant Fuoco 26

  • Brunch and some rest for the body. Time for some walks and use of yoga room or pool.

  • During the afternoon and evening - cooking at Fuoco26. Here we make traditional Italian food a la Abruzzo. Rural and in an old-fashioned setting from Amalia's grandparents' farm which is today upgraded to a restaurant. Amalia presents a couple of wines for us for a little antipasti when we arrive and we then prepare a couple of traditional dishes which we then enjoy together.

Day 4: WEDNESDAY: - Vineyard hopping and visit to Crecchio for lunch

  • Brunch in the morning

  • Trip to the Ortona-Orsogna district. We visit Collefrisio vineyards and Dora Sarchese.

  • For lunch, we visit the lovely little village of Crecchio and have lunch with Antonio's family at Restaurant Ducale.

  • Evening: - Light dinner at our place.

Day 5: THURSDAY - Return to Sweden via Rome, Fiumicino

Subject to possible changes in the schedule.

Like to stretch out in the pool or do some yoga outdoors?

You stay in a shared double room with bath, enter the rooms directly to the garden and pool area. The house has large common areas such as dining room, as well as a large generous lounge area.

Our 25 meter pool is at your disposal. We have a beautiful roofed pergola, a shala for yoga enthusiasts or just if  you like to workout outdoor. The indoor gym has a beautiful view of the countryside. In the background lies the Adriatic Sea.

If you like to go for a walk, all the small roads take you straight out among vineyards and olive groves.
Of course we are bias - but it is beautiful and really genuine landscape in the middle of the wine and olive district.
